Slane

Slane takes it's name from Slaine, king of an ancient clan called the Fir Bolg. Legend has it that his remains were laid to rest here. Slane is also said to be the landing spot of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, when he returned to Ireland. Here he lit his paschal fire setting alight the flame of Christianity in Ireland. Nowadays Slane is also famous for its rock concerts that take place in the beautiful grounds of Slane Castle, a natural amphitheatre on the banks of the river Boyne. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison and REM have all entertained the crowds here.
