Newgrange

Newgrange is one of the most famous and impressive prehistoric monuments in Europe. A Neolthic passage grave built sometime around 3,200 BC, the site is a master piece of engineering which predates Stonehenge, Mycenae, and even the Pyramids. The major source of Newgrange's fame is a small opening above the doorway of the passage grave, called the roof box. This was engineered five millennia ago to allow a shaft of light to penetrate the passage way and illuminate the burial chamber at dawn on the morning of the shortest day of the year, the Winter Solstice.
