Monasterboice

This early Christian monastic settlement was founded at the beginning of the sixth century by St. Buite, who died in 521. The remains of two churches still stand on the site, together with a large roundtower and two carved High Crosses which are among the finest examples of Celtic High Crosses still remaining in Ireland. The largest of these, St. Muiredach's Cross, is perhaps the most famous example of a Celtic High Cross and dates from 900AD.
